giving shape to what you want to say
Writing and Content
Copywriting and editing for businesses, artists and writers who know what they want to say and need it said well.
I listen first. Then I write.

Copy that sounds like the clearest, most considered version of your own voice. Your audience recognises you in it, and so do you.
I ask a lot of questions. Not just the obvious ones. I want to know your story: where you hesitate, what you find difficult to say, who you're trying to reach and why it matters to you that you reach them. I listen for what drives you, the moments of conviction and the frustrations, the vision and the doubts in equal measure. Everything you tell me shapes what I write for you.
The work, and where it can take you.
Website copy
Full website copywriting and content audits. Every page written from scratch in your voice, or your existing copy reworked to meet who you are now.
Social, email
and launch copy
Social media, email marketing, landing pages and launch material. The words that keep your business visible and moving.
Blog content
Written from your ideas, developed through conversation and positioned to show the depth of what you know.
Brand Voice Guide
A practical reference for how you sound across every channel, to share with anyone who writes for your brand or represents it.
Artist statements and exhibition copy
For creators and practitioners who need their work described in language that does justice to both the work and the thinking behind it.
Biography and
personal statements
How you are understood in your field and your unique value is the central question. Academic applications, professional biographies, personal statements.
Press, print and editorial
Announcements, press releases, brochures, correspondence and editorial copy, written from scratch or edited. Writing where the tone, the pitch and the facts all have to hold up.
Creative editing
For writers who need a reader as much as an editor. Poetry, fiction, literary non-fiction. I work in service of your vision, not mine.
Proofreading
Closer to the page than editing, and less attached to the text. The final stage before anything is printed or published, from manuscripts to web copy.
What my clients say
Your creative vision and intellect drove beautifully the presentation on my first website
Jess’s approach was personal, gentle and unhurried. I’ve never liked explaining my work, but sharing the stories behind a project many years in the making helped me put the abstract into words. It was a beautiful experience.
Jess edited my personal statement for Oxford University. She helped me find my own voice and shape my story, and I felt at ease throughout. My application was successful.
I play avant-garde free jazz, and sometimes you lose the words to explain what you do. That’s when Jess comes along and saves your ass. It’s like making a map of your art for people who don’t know it yet.
Jess was with us through every stage of creating Karakaya Retreat, from the first vision to opening day. She put what we were creating and feeling into eloquent words, and always delivered on time. We felt in great hands.
Jess understands my process and what I’m trying to say, sometimes better than I do. She cuts through my creative Gordian knots with a single stroke of perfect writing, in language that captures the spirit of the work.

I would very much recommend Jess’s generous time. It was a very personalized, gentle and respectful approach to story sharing the creative process over a period of days with no rush... This was key. I’ve never been a big talker in explaining my work, as I’ve always experienced it as a continuous unraveling of messages and meaning as the years pass... and I feel that by giving it a ‘solidified meaning’ by explaining it, that magical, alive thread is lost. In the case of a particular project that took many years in the making, it was surprisingly helpful to share about some of the stories that emerged during the process of the making with Jess. This helped me bridge a part of the abstract into words so that I could understand and connect on a different level to a very personal process that I was going through at the time. It was a beautiful experience. Thank you

MA Application Personal Statement
Jess edited my personal statement for an application to study at Oxford University. She supported me to find my own voice, to organise and construct a narrative, then helped with final edits. I had a sense of trust and peace of mind throughout. With her support I submitted a successful application. Jess is a wonderful writer and very supportive, I highly recommend.

Bio & Artist Statement
I’m a musician, I play avant garde free jazz style and those who know this type of music know very well that sometimes you may go too far and lose the ability to express yourself and what you are doing with words. Right at that point Jess comes into your life and saves your ass. She goes deep into the roots and takes it out from your soul, and in the end you feel you’re really being understood, and at the same time you have something solid in your hand to describe your work. It’s like making the map of your art for others who don’t know it yet.

We are very grateful to have found Jess during the early stages of developing our concept for Karakaya Retreat. She accompanied us through every stage, vision developing, the building & construction phase, and our first days of opening. Her skill in being able to put into eloquent written words what we were envisioning and creating, as well as what we were feeling, was essential to our feeling grounded in our process of developing our brand, website and content. We especially appreciated her ability to quickly understand our needs, her flexibility and creativity, as well as delivering on time. We always felt in great hands.

As an independent artist, my background in philosophy led me to working without curators on my exhibitions. In my work I utilize language which is both analytical and poetic. Jess is the only writer with whom this act of cocreation has been possible, as well as a delight and a life saviour. I was struggling to finalise texts before I started working with her, often frozen for days on an idealised perfection of a single sentence whilst losing perspective of the grand picture. Jess understands both the fundamentals of my process and the importance of what I am trying to include, sometimes better than myself, weaving magically and coherently the loose strings of my ideas into precise presentations of the work. She cuts through my self-inflicted creative Gordian knots with a single stroke of perfect writing, tailored in a language that embodies the spirit of the work. Through working with Jess, I learned that help was possible and could move me beyond my own limitations. She has finalised drafts into beautiful essays, exhibition writings, press releases and biographies, always available when needed, always understanding the particular weight of an artist's deadline and the importance of what I was trying to say, sometimes beyond my own self-awareness.
